Jay-Z Decoded

Create a jacket comp for Jay-Z’s new book, DECODED.

Working directly with the jacket’s designer, Rodrigo Corral, we discussed his various concepts, finally landing on Andy Warhol’s painting, Rorschach, which Jay-Z had in his collection. We made various tests using different metallics and gold foils, overprinting various tones of color until we landed on the final color values and print techniques which were used in printing this jacket.

  • Foil Stamping
  • Direct Image Printing
  • Lamination
  • Prototyping

Close up on the base gold foil stamping with overprinting process color to add tone and depth to replicate the original artwork.

Using a gold foil as a base, we direct image printed the tone on top to replicate the original painting.
